Beatriz Viejo holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Barcelona, Spain, and a master in Scientific Communication from Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain). She started her professional career in medical communications at the multinational healthcare communications agency Saatchi & Saatchi Health as an account manager for Spanish and international clients. In 2009, following her scientific background and soul, she decided to move to the field of medical writing, with a special focus on MedComms and publications. She is the scientific director of the online university specialization course on ‘Medical Writing’ (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, UOC), an innovative, work-oriented, 400-hour course addressing the style and peculiarities of the main types of medical writing. She is a full member of the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA) and a member of the Steering Committee of the Spanish Association of Medical Writers (Asociación Española de Redactores de Textos Médicos, AERTeM) since 2010. She has been the President of the AERTeM since March 2024.
