From Stethoscope to Crayons, Doctoring by Drawing

Medicine is about science but also about humanism and effective communication. Comics and vignettes are proving to be impressive tools to convey health-related information to the general society and to patients. These visuals are also an amazing way to teach ethical concepts to medical students and young doctors, as well as a means to reflect on how we do things as healthcare professionals.

This talk will provide a myriad of examples of how an A&E doctor with over two decades of experience moved from seeing patients to drawing for them and for their colleagues. Graphic Medicine, with its fascinating mixture of words and cartoons, is finding its own place in the narrative of health.
