This roundtable session explores the transformative impact of AI on medical literature search, discovery, and summarization. We will highlight 3 emerging AI technology trends and discuss advantages and new challenges posed by each one.

1. Central to our discussion will be the paradigm shift in responsibility and control in the creation of medical content: Is it the medical writer, the software, or the developers who bear the ultimate responsibility?
2. We'll discuss and define what "AI-generated output" means – from clear examples like summarization to more subtle ones that are hidden from the medical writer. In each case, what does it actually mean to have a "human in the loop" when verifying the accuracy and quality of any results or output?
3. If this is a requirement for medical writers, what are the implications for development teams in creating AI tools with observability as a feature?

The goal of this session is to facilitate a discussion between medical writers about how these tools fit into their workflow, where the current gaps are, how they are evaluated, and come to a better understanding of how medical writers and product / development teams can create meaningful software using this new generation of technology.
