Process-Based Governance: A principled approach to AI ethics in practice

10:40 AM - 10:55 AM

Artificial Intelligence is transforming many fields, including medicine and related disciplines. As a technology that can perform tasks previously done exclusively by humans, AI is increasingly playing a role in important and sensitive decisions, and in conveying important information to medical practitioners, patients, and the public. Generative AI in particular prompts close scrutiny, particularly when used in sensitive domains. In this talk, I discuss the Process-Based Governance Framework, our approach to ensuring that AI technologies are ethical, safe, and responsible. The framework brings together a fully described set of ethical principles and reflective tools that help decision-makers and project teams reflect upon and implement ethical commitments in the design, development, procurement, and implementation of data-driven systems.
